Bradley Cooper's pet project/remake of A Star Is Born premiered this weekend at the Toronto International Film Festival to raving reviews, including stunning praise for Lady Gaga's first starring role in a film.
The film follows musician Jackson Maine (Cooper) as he discovers a young artsist named Ally (Gaga) and launches her into fame. But Maine still has his own demons to face and his age and alcoholism threaten to destroy everything he's built.
In an interview with Variety, Lady Gaga thanked her gay fans for getting her where she is today.
"I make a joke sometimes, behind every female icon is a gay man," said Gaga. "I really wouldn’t be here without the gay community, what they have taught me about love and acceptance and bravery."
The LGBT community did have an actual impact on the film. Cooper changed the original location of their characters’ first meeting to a drag bar because of a story Gaga told him about the venues she used to perform in in Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
