Lady Gaga Tackled Sexual Assault With a Music Video and It's Amazing
Lady Gaga totally gets it. She can literally do no wrong, and she's arguably the most famous gay icon (sorry, Cher) alive. With her engagement, Gaga seems to truly have it all.
But instead of drinking champagne on her yacht, she released a powerful new music video for “Til It Happens To You."
The video, copresented by The Hunting Ground, a film forcing the expose of sexual assault on college campuses, addresses addresses a harrowing statistic: one in five college women will be sexually assaulted this year.
The video is in black and white, and focuses on four incidents of sexual abuse; A girl alone in her dorm room studying gets a knock on the door from a “friend”; Two room-mates go out dancing only to get spiked and taken home by a fellow student, and a trans boy in the college co-ed bathrooms receiving correctional rape when found with bandaged breasts.
It's graphic, moving, shocking and important all at once, if not essential.
If you’re struggling, or know someone who is, call the National Sexual Assault Hotline on 1-800-656-HOPE and help us share this video with the world. You can also donate to help The Hunting Ground filmmakers with their battle for awareness.
