Remember Highlights? The magazine from our childhood that's probs best known for its unexplainably fun Hidden Pictures puzzles? Well, they're still in publication, and they are taking a small but necessary step towards inclusivity and diversity by publishing a cartoon of a family with same-sex parents for the first time ever.
According to PinkNews, the long-standing American children's publication is set to run the picture in its February 2017 issue, and the move comes following a controversy from late last year where readers were accusing Highlights and their offshoot publication Hello of being homophobic for not actively representing LGBT families.
"It was never a question of if," Highlights editor-in-chief Christine French Cully told The Washington Post about the decision to publish an image featuring a family with same-sex parents. “It was always a question of when.”
