San Francisco based Olivia Travel announced today that National and International Women’s Swimming Hall of Fame member Diana Nyad will be serving as celebrity sports guest during their eight day 2013 Mexican lxtapa trip, scheduled to depart on November 2, 2013.
During the Club Med journey, fans will be able to congratulate Nyad on her athletic accomplishments and hear some fitness and wellness tips from the world-class athlete.
Nyad, 63, recently made headlines when she was pulled from the water during her fourth attempt to swim the Straits of Florida, from Cuba to Florida. Nyad made it 41 miles into her swim before the elements; hypothermia, storms, and jellyfish stings, forced her to abandon the feat.
When Nyad was asked about the latest attempt she said, “Attempting this swim has become an emblem of never giving up, not only to me and my life spirit, but to millions of people who are rooting for me to show them that we can all, at any age, live large. We should, every one of us, chase our own personal dreams.”
Nyad’s past swims include; three attempts to swim from Cuba to Florida, she circled Manhattan Island in seven hours and 57 minutes, and in 1979 she completed (what was then) the longest swim in history, a 102.5 miles from the Bahamas to Florida.
OliviaTravel, the world’s largest lesbian travel company, is known for their premier cruise and resort destinations. They also served as an official sponsor of Nyad’s latest swim.
“Olivia is thrilled to welcome Diana on next year’s Ixtapa trip, and we know that guests will enjoy meeting such a gutsy, empowered individual,” Olivia Founder and CEO Judy Dlugacz said in a company press release.
The company’s 2013 travel schedule also includes two Caribbean cruises and two Punta Cana resort trips celebrating Olivia’s 40th anniversary, as well as new stops in Ireland and the Scottish British Isles, Provence and Burgundy, and Vietnam and Cambodia.
