It's time for one last bow!
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel won over the hearts of so many fans leading up to its fifth and final season, currently streaming on Prime Video.
The show has won a slew of awards, garnered widespread critical acclaim, and earned a devoted fanbase around the world with Alex Borstein and Rachel Brosnahan starring as the two leads.
"It's been so surprising. I know I speak for all of us when I say we're so proud and grateful to be a part of something that's made people laugh when the world was and is on fire. The show has been there for people through such important moments in their lives, happy and sad. It feels really special to have been a part of so many people's lives over the last five years," Brosnahan tells PRIDE.
"We've been a little bit of a comfort food when people wanted that. The central character is an optimist and doesn't even understand the word 'no.' I think that really pulled people together," Borstein adds.
LGBTQ+ fans resonated with Alex Borstein's character Susie throughout the five seasons, although she never explicitly mentions her sexuality since the show is based in the late 50s and early 60s.
"It's painful. It's really hard. She's become a part of my life just like with viewers. It's going to be very strange not having that character to escape into. You never know what's coming around the bend, but to expect a character quite like Susie... it would take a miracle. It's going to pretty hard to follow that up," Borstein says.
Although Maisel may be coming to an end, Brosnahan hopes this show can serve as blueprint for future programs to continue casting women in dynamic leading roles.
"We talk so much about this 'womance' being at the center of the show. It feels still unfortunately rare to have two women anchoring a show like this. I hope that people reflect on the female relationships in their own lives and continue to embrace the idea that women can complete each other. Women can life each other up, make each other better, and can challenge each other. There's room for all of us at the table if you pull up a seat."
