If the past year taught us anything, it's that the most unexpectedly heartwarming of moments can happen in the most random of places, and instead of questioning it, we should just enjoy it. Such is the case with this gay-centered Doritos Mexico ad that literally has us all up in our feels.
Over the holiday break, the long-running chip brand released a 2-minute, cinematic AF commercial entitled "El Mejor Regalo" ("The Best Gift") that tells the story of a single father taking to Reddit to ask netizens for advice on how to address and talk to his son about his sexuality. Throughout the clip, we see the man's son has an intimate relationship with another man, and although the son tells his father that he's just a friend from college, it's obvious within the first millisecond of seeing the two together that they are in love with each other. We won't spoil the end for you, but it's the kind of happy ending that queer LGBTQ+ people deserve to see more of in media!
According to a report from Design Taxi, the ad (which was based on a true story) was created by Slap Buenos Aires and helmed by director Nico Veiga as a part of Doritos Mexico's #OrgulloTodoElAño (#PrideAllYear), a campaign that seeks to highlight stories from and support the LGBTQ+ community all year long.
"We’re really proud of the accomplishments that have been achieved with Doritos Rainbow." Doritos Mexico's marketing director Eduardo Córdoba said in a statement to Design Taxi. "We believe the moment is right to show that our commitment extends beyond a proud celebration every June."
