Meet the Voice Behind Shelter’s Soundtrack, Shane Mack
"Lie to Me" is an amazing song.
We’ve already discussed the many reasons you should watch (or rewatch) the lovable “gay surfing movie,” Shelter. From the great cast to the solid story, Shelter offers LGBT viewers a quality film they can enjoy again and again.
And speaking of watching it: you can watch the entire film for free on the Here TV App! It's available on all your favorite devices including iOS, Android and desktop.
But one thing we didn’t mention (and should have)—the soundtrack! A movie’s soundtrack plays such a huge role in the quality of a movie. It can add emotion to a scene, help create character development, even move the plot along. And Shelter’s soundtrack does all of this and more! Shelter’s soundtrack is definitely a favorite among fans, serving up acoustic angst mixed with poppy beach-side fun.
And the man who brought many of the songs to life? Shane Mack!
Four of Shane’s songs appear on the Shelter soundtrack: The main theme, “Lie to Me,” along with “More Than This,” “I Like That” and “Take the Long Way Home.”
The music video for the movie’s theme song, “Lie to Me,” features Shane crooning into the camera with clips and images from the movie playing along. The couple in the movie (Trevor Wright as Zach and Brad Rowe as Shaun) are freaking adorable, and watching them canoodle in bed and enjoy their time together, all while accompanied by Shane’s haunting song, is as heartwarming as it gets!
See, there’s a reason this movie has such a supportive following!
While Shane Mack might not be immediately familiar to you, he’s certainly had a successful music career! Here are a few things you may not know about the man behind the music:
Shane Mack’s real name is Shane McAnally. He wrote and recorded the songs for 2007’s Shelter under the name Shane Mack while he was living and working in West Hollywood.
Shane came out as gay in 2001.
Shane married his husband, Michael, in September 2012, after six years of dating. The couple grew their family three months later, welcoming a son and a daughter.
Shane’s more recent work has been in country music. He’s written songs for major country music stars like Lee Ann Womack, Kenny Chesney, Luke Bryan and The Band Perry.
Shane has even worked on a Broadway show, writing music and lyrics for a musical based on the popular classic TV show, Hee-Haw.
The rest of the soundtrack is equally great, featuring music from little known artists delivering some wonderfully catchy and deeply soulful songs. The entire soundtrack is available on Spotify — check it out!
Which one is your favorite?
