Harry Potter Actress: "My Parents Were Utterly Appalled That I Was Gay"
Miriam Margolyes, the actress better known as Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter series, revealed in a new interview that her parents made her swear on a bible that she would never be with a woman, after she came out to them.
The actress, who's been in a relationship for almost 50 years, told Audioboom that although her father was a doctor and an "enlightened" man about race, he was not enlightened about homosexuality. She didn't come out until she was 27 years old, and she says her mother was "utterly appalled."
At least we know that J.K. Rowling does not allow homophobia to thrive in the wizarding world:
