Since its announcement back in December 2020, the Disney+ Star Wars series The Acolyte has been shrouded in mystery. Apart from that it’s set to star out actor Amandla Stenberg (Bodies Bodies Bodies) and is being show-run by Leslye Headland (Russian Doll), very little has shared beyond an equally mysterious plot description.
“The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated,” according to the official synopsis.
For the uninitiated, the High Republic era predates the Skywalker Saga series that began with Star Wars: The Phantom Menace by centuries, when the Jedi Order was in its prime.
While the details are admittedly scarce, that hasn’t prevented us from getting very hyped for what could very well be our first foray into a gay galaxy far, far away. We’re hoping Andor’s lesbians walked so The Acolyte’s could run.
While there’s no official word on just how queer the show could be, today’s news of who else will be filling out the cast has us feeling very hopeful.

Joining Stenberg is forever-queer-fave Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix), out actor Rebecca Henderson (Inventing Anna), and out actor Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll) along with Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Manny Jacinto (Nine Perfect Strangers), Dafne Keen (His Dark Materials), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim) and, Dean-Charles Chapman (1917).
LucasFilm has also released the first behind-the-scenes image from the series featuring Stenberg, Jung-jae, and Headland, confirming that production is officially underway on the highly anticipated series.

As for when we’ll finally get our eyes on The Acolyte, there’s no official date yet. It will stream on Disney+.
