Fans have wondered if this is how Ant-Man could come through in a clinch.

No, it’s on the plot of a Chuck Tingle novel — although it could be — fans of Ant-Man have long speculated whether he missed an opportunity to take out Thanos using his powers, well, anally. Now with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on the way, and with it a new supervillain in Kang the Conqueror, the debate rages on. [Correction, this is actually the plot of a book by Tingle. —Ed]

Backing up a little, what fans are referring to is known as the “Thanus Theory”, in which Ant-Man, whose ability is to shrink down below the size of an ant, could have used that talent to sneakily enter the body of Thanos, a near undefeatable supervillain, and then expand, taking him out from the inside.

Fans of The Boys have a little idea of what this tactic may look like. Albeit in that show’s case, it was a different orifice a shrinking hero went misadventuring into. Yes, we’re still cringing about that one.

Yesterday the trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania dropped, showing that the new big bad that Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), and Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton) will be facing off with is Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors). That’s leading fans to (jokingly) speculate if this time Lang would finally exact his deadly anal option — or leave another gaping plothole.

Speaking with ET, Rudd addressed the theory. “I know what you’re talking about, a way to kill Thanos,” said Rudd. “And that some people consider it a missed opportunity. Well, I guess you’ll just have to see the next one,” he teased.

Rudd added, however, that he isn’t entirely confident about how effective the tactic would be against Kang and his anal fortitude. “I don’t know if you can take Kang out that way either, Kang’s pretty tough, and I gotta assume all parts of him are tough,” he shared.

Fans will indeed just have to wait and see.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania premieres in theaters on Feb. 16, 2023. Watch the trailer below.
