Netflix is ramping up their promotion for their upcoming Wednesday Addams live-action series with a new video advertising Nevermore Academy.

With Hogwarts no longer holding the magic it once did, it’s surprising more stories haven’t popped up in recent years trying to replace the once beloved Harry Potter school. Will Nevermore Academy fill that void?

From the promo, it sure seems like that’s what Netflix is hoping will happen.

It opens with Gwendoline Christie as the school’s principal offering a message to any outcasts who “simply don’t belong…in a world full of normies.” From there, various students provide commentary on what types of courses are available at this school for the strange.

Painting, archery, and werewolf reproduction are just some of the things taught at this fictional academy, but the real point of the video seems to be directing potential fans to the newly launched website.

Once there, cursory information about the school’s mission, principal, and notable alumni is provided.

“For over 200 years we have welcomed Outcasts of all kinds -- werewolves, vampires, sirens and gorgons,” reads a quote attributed to Christie’s Larissa Weems. “As Principal it is my honor to announce that Nevermore is now accepting applications from everybody. I extend my personal invitation to each and everyone of you to apply to our very unique school.”

There’s also a place for “prospective students” to apply to the school, which consists of a short questionnaire and a request for contact information, before promising an admissions decision in just a few weeks.

It’s the type of marketing we don’t see as much in a world where streamers seem to be cramming as many short-run shows in per year as possible, rather than focusing on developing and nurturing the ones they have that show promise. If nothing else, it potentially suggests an investment in Wednesday that we don’t often see with Netflix shows.

A premiere date for the show has yet to be set, but it is expected to debut this fall. In the meantime, Nevermore Academy awaits exploration.
