The Joker is undergoing some, ah, changes in a recent comic from DC, hilariously dividing fans.

In the latest issue of Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing, the Clown Prince of Crime finds himself pregnant after a spell cast by magician superhero Zatanna has some unexpected consequences.

Zatanna’s spell specifically said that “no one else will ever have your baby,” as she pushed his face into a puddle of mud. The next morning after their confrontation, Joker wakes up nine months pregnant — only to vomit up a sentient mud blob that morphs into a mini-Joker.

Look, comics are notoriously wild and unexpected. As many longtime DC fans pointed out, a cis man getting pregnant and puking up a mud baby is hardly at the top of the zany charts for these types of things.

But because it meshes with the current “culture wars” (aka the crusade against trans people and gender identity), some people absolutely lost it over a handful of goofy panels.

But other fans and casual onlookers were considerably less fazed — and even hyped about writer Matthew Rosenberg finding a way to up the bizarre factor in a world that already focuses on a maniacal clown terrorizing Gotham.

Anyway,Todd Phillips’ Joker sequel starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga should absolutely scrap everything they’re doing and pick up this plotline instead.

What is Joker's real identity?

A 2022 comic revealed Joker's true identity as Jack Oswald White, but there have been variations over the years.

Is Joker 2 confirmed?

A Joker sequel has been confirmed, but with Warner Bros. Discovery reversing decisions all the time now, it's impossible to say for sure that something will be released until it actually has been.

What is Joker rated?

The Joker movie is rated R.
