Marvel’s Gay Captain America Returns for a New Story
Captain America of the Railways is back!
Captain America is gay again!
Aaron Fischer, known as the Captain America of the Railways, is making his return to the comics in Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty.
The openly gay take on Cap was introduced in the first issue of United States of Captain America, a short series that premiered in 2021 and focused on everyday people who took up the mantle of Captain America to defend their communities. In Fischer’s case, that meant riding the rails with his boyfriend to protect runaways, as he had been once after his father reacted poorly to his being gay.
The character assisted Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson on their quest at the time, and it seems he’ll be offering his assistance once again in his upcoming return.
Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #8 focuses on Rogers and his friends getting scattered across the country with time missing from their memories. A preview shows Fischer helping them all to reassemble and getting to meet the gang.

How long Fischer will stick around remains to be seen, but Josh Trujillo, who initially co-created the character, previously teased the opportunity to “get to do some stuff with him in the future,” which insinuates this won’t be the last time we see him.
\u201cHappy United States of Captain America Day! It's been a journey to get to this point, but today Aaron Fischer makes his official Marvel debut.\n\nI'm SO proud of the character, and I hope you enjoy his first appearance. “It's amazing, the positive feedback that I've gotten for advocating for that community because people want to see themselves in popular media,” he said of creating an LGBTQ+ character outside of the “shinier, happier” ones Marvel more frequently has. “For me, it's always important to find something from the real world, find a social issue or find something that we can talk about in addition to having silly superhero fun.”
Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #8 hits shelves January 4.
Steve Rogers is the most well known Captain America, but he is not the only iteration.
Rogers' version of Captain America is an Avenger.
Chris Evans played Steve Rogers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Rachel Kiley is presumably a writer and definitely not a terminator. She can usually be found crying over queerbaiting in the Pitch Perfect franchise or on Twitter, if not both.
