Your sims will now be able to WooHoo with whomever they want according to their sexual orientations.
Electronic Arts is finally expanding the sexual orientation options for the characters created on The Sims 4 in a brand-new update to the game. The company issued a statement on Friday, July 15 detailing how it will go about adding new sexual orientation options on The Sims 4 and the changes that will follow this latest update.
Following this update, gamers will be presented with a “sexual orientation” section when creating a new sim (as seen below). The company explained:
“You can check any combination of attraction boxes (including all or none) to reflect your sim’s romantic orientation. Further down the line, we’ll be able to expand this to include additional gender identities that we don’t have at this time.”
Unfortunately, this means that you are still unable to create non-binary sims in the game, which is a shame, particularly during a week that celebrated Non-Binary Day. But even though the game is still behind on gender identities, this update does open up the possibility for sims to have varying sexual orientations – lesbian, gay, bisexual, asexual, and more.
EA Games also said the following about this update to sexual orientations on The Sims 4:
“While we try to give players the option to toggle certain gameplay features, LGBTQIA+ identities are a fact of life and not a toggle to be switched on and off.”
In other words, Electronic Arts is making it clear here that selecting a sim’s sexual orientation won’t be a toggle that can be flipped one way or another, but rather a defining piece of the sim’s identity.
One thing is certain: gaymers everywhere will be very excited about this latest update to The Sims 4.
