Lando Calrissian stans rise! After years of speculation, it looks like our favorite intergalactic scammer and Rebel General is finally going to have his pansexuality officially confirmed!
According to the official Star Wars website, in honor of Pride Month this June, Marvel is going to be releasing six special variant covers of their Star Wars comics series. Each cover will feature a different LGBTQ+ Star Wars character, and one of them will be none other than Lando Calrissian himself (famously played by both Billy Dee Williams and Donald Glover in the live-action films), who will be gracing the cover of Star Wars #14, illustrated by Stephen Byrne.
"This talented team of artists is bringing so much passion and enthusiasm to these covers," Marvel editor Tom Groneman said in a statement about the Pride-themed variant covers. "For me, sharing that passion with fans and readers is a wonderful celebration of the most unique, compelling, and iconic characters in the Star Wars galaxy."
Because the other characters — Doctor Aphra, Sana Starros, Rae Sloan, Yrica Quell, Terec and Ceret — featured on the other Star Wars Pride variant covers are LGBTQ+ themselves, many queer Star Wars fans are taking Lando's inclusion in the group to be confirmation that he is, indeed, pansexual, something that Solo: A Star Wars Story screenwriters Lawrence and Jonathan Kasdan confirmed themselves back in 2018 and that Donald Glover (who played the younger version of the beloved character in Solo) has been wanting to see on-screen for quite some time too.
"How can you not be pansexual in space?" Glover said when asked about Lando's sexuality in a 2018 interview with Sirius XM's Entertainment Weekly Radio.
"There are so many things to have sex with," he continued. "I didn’t think that was that weird. Yeah, he’s coming on to everybody. I mean, yeah, whatever. It just didn’t seem that weird to me ‘cause I feel like if you’re in space it’s kind of like, the door is open! It’s like, no, only guys or girls. No, it’s anything. This thing is literally a blob. Are you a man or a woman? Like, who cares? Have a good time out here."
