The antigay group even started a petition.

We've been hyped for Marvel Studios' upcoming film The Eternals ever since rumors about the flick first started circulating on the internet back in early 2019And with last month's announcement that one of the movie's stars, Brian Tyree Henry (of Atlanta, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and If Beale Street Could Talk fame), would be playing a gay superhero named Phastos and that he would be getting to kiss his husband (played by openly gay actor Haaz Sleiman), our hype just keeps growing greater and greater as the weeks go by.

But it looks like not everyone feels that way, especially the infamous One Million Moms.

The extremely antigay, conservative media watchdogs, who don't actually have anywhere near a million members and who LGBTQ Nation points out is run by the American Family Association, an organization that the Southen Poverty Law Center labels as a hate group, is taking offense at Marvel's decision to finally include actual queer representation in one of their many, many movies.

"There have been numerous attempts by the entertainment industry to indoctrinate families with the LGBTQ agenda discretely and now more overtly," 1MM said in a reactionary post on their website (which PRIDE will not be linking to). "1MM wants parents to be forewarned so they are not caught off guard with this upcoming Marvel film. This would surprise most conservative families since it would be unexpected so 1MM needs your help in getting the word out to as many people as possible."

They continued:

"Marvel has decided to be politically correct instead of providing family-friendly programming. Marvel should stick to entertaining, not pushing an agenda."

1MM also cited the recent, brief lesbian kiss in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker as a recent example of Hollywood trying to "push an agenda" on families and have started a petition, which they claim has over 18,000+ signatures at the time of reporting.

It's always sad to see that there are people out there who are still so opposed to letting LGBTQ+ people get even the tiniest bit of representation in mainstream media and are going out of their way to be hateful and start boycotts/petitions, but it's not going to stop us, and a ton of other people, from going out to see a highly-anticipated superhero film. If anything, 1MM's petition makes us want to see The Eternals even more!
