A Gay, Live-Action 'Green Lantern' Series Is Coming to HBO Max!

Let's just hope it's better than the 2011 Ryan Reynolds version...

For all the Green Lantern stans out there who have absolutely dying for some form of justice/redemption ever since 2011's very, um...interesting live-action movie adaptation starring Ryan Reynolds didn't quite meet critical and box office expectations, your day is finally here! An upcoming Green Lantern series is making its way to HBO Max — and it's gonna be gay AF!

According to a report from Deadline, the live-action series produced by Love, Simon director and Arrowverse mastermind Greg Berlanti centering around the beloved and iconic DC Comics character has officially found writers in Seth-Grahame Smith and Marc Guggenheim, with Grahame-Smith serving as the series' showrunner!

Deadline also reports that the show, like the comics, will be incredibly diverse, featuring many different characters from all over the universe who take on the Green Lantern mantle, including Alan Scott (Earth's first Green Lantern who also happens to be an out gay man), Simon Baz (the first Muslim-American member of the Green Lantern Corps.), and Jessica Cruz (a Latinx-American member of the Green Lantern Corps. who made her first appearance in Justice League #31 back in 2014).

"Both of these original DC properties we’ll be creating for HBO Max will be unlike anything seen on television," Berlanti said in a statement reported by Entertainment Weekly last October when talks about a live-action Green Lantern series (and an anthology series entitled Strange Adventures) first went underway. "An anthology series of cautionary tales set in a world where superpowers exist, and, in what promises to be our biggest DC show ever made, we will be going to space with a Green Lantern television series, but I can’t reveal any more about that just yet."

Of course, the news of a queer-inclusive Green Lantern series was a hit with gay geeks online.

While there's still no word on casting, when production will start, or a potential premiere date, it's safe to say we're definitely excited for this upcoming superhero series!!
