A miscommunication from Kevin Feige earlier this month had us extremely disappointed in Marvel Studios for their lack of plans to introduce a transgender hero into their wildly popular movie franchise, but not all hope is lost! As it turns out, there might still be some plans for some actual, real LGBTQ+ representation in the MCU after all, this time in the form of a character in the Disney+ series Loki.
According to a report from Screen Rant, the upcoming series (which will star British heartthrob Tom Hiddleston reprising the now-iconic role of Thor's trickster brother) will introduce viewers to a transgender heroine named Sera!
According to Fandom, Sera is a powerful magical being who belongs to a rare race of wingless angels called Anchorites. Although Anchorites are mostly male, Sera identifies as a woman and is Marvel comics' only non-shapeshifting active trans character. She has a wife named Angela, who just so happens to be related to Loki and Thor, which is probably why she is reported to be included in the highly-anticipated Disney+ show.
Although it's just a rumor (for now), if the inclusion of Sera actually does pan out and she is introduced to viewers in Loki, it will indeed be a big, watershed moment for trans representation in popular superhero media.
Loki is set to stream on Disney+ in Spring 2021.
