Steven Universe: Future introduced a new nonbinary character with Shep, voiced by the nonbinary star of FX's groundbreaking series Pose, Indya Moore!

Shep is introduced in the episode titled "Little Graduation" as Sadie's new love interest and bandmate. But Steven's not used to all the change that's happened on Earth and is beyond stressed over his friends growing up and moving on from the way he knew them two years prior. The feelings of growing apart from his friends and being left behind manifest into a very literal catastrophe that threatens to suffocate all of his friends.

But Shep ends up saving the day.

"If you don't give people enough room to grow, you'll suffocate them," they tell Steven.

Throughout its six-season run, Steven Universe has been praised for its groundbreaking LGBTQ+ representation. The alien race of gems are all female-presenting and several same-gender romances play out between characters, including last season's a history-making wedding. Cartoon Network also confirmed Stevonnie, the fusion between Steven and his best-friend-but-maybe-more Connie Maheswaran, as intersex and nonbinary.

Moore is an awesome addition to the team and we hope we see more of them and their character!
