'The Witcher' Showrunner Responds to Fans Shipping Jaskier & Geralt

Fans of Netflix's epic fantasy series absolutely love the relationship between the two!

In case you didn't know, Netflix's latest fantasy epic, The Witcher, has been taking the fandom world by storm. Why, you ask? Well, there's a lot of reasons, but probably the biggest is...um...uh...oh alright, we'll just come out and say it: Man of Steel actor Henry Cavill (who plays the show's lead character Geralt) is HOT AF.

Literally, a huge chunk of the show's fans openly admits that Henry is probably the only reason they were drawn to the show in the first place. (And we totally don't blame them!)

Another reason why the series has a big following, especially amongst queer viewers, is the dynamic between Geralt and his loveably annoying sidekick friend Jaskier (played by Joey Batey). As soon as the two appeared on-screen together, Geralt/Jaskier instantly became a new ship!

But if you're an optimistic LGBTQ+ TV viewer and think there's actually more to Geralt and Jaskier than just some queer subtext (like a budding romantic relationship, perhaps??!), you're setting yourself up for some disappointment. According to one of The Witcher's creators herself, the two are "just an example of male friendship."

"These are men who...one of them is very passionate, and very creative, and is able to express his feelings; and one is not at all," showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said in a recent interview with Digital Spy. "But they both ultimately love each other very much."

While queer Witcher fans will surely be sad to hear that there's no explicit spark between the two, that's still not gonna stop all the loyal Geralt/Jaskier shippers from stanning their new fave fantasy couple anyways!

The first season of The Witcher is currently streaming on Netflix!
