While we've been making strides with queer representation in recent years, there really can never be enough. Especially when it comes to presenting the unique and beautiful ways queer families come together. While we always want more, there are some shows that are already getting it right. These 16 shows feature some of our fave LGBTQ+ couples ever to hit the small screen!
Netflix
Netflix’s Princess Power is based on the #1 New York Times Bestselling book series Princesses Wear Pants by Savannah Guthrie and Allison Oppenheim. It follows the adventures of four different princesses who take on bold and independent roles. Although each character defines and individual aspect of the full gender spectrum, one princess, Be a, has two dads, voiced by Tan France and Andrew Rannells.

Another Netflix hit, Chip and Potato follows an adorable little pug named Chip as she learns the ins and outs of kindergarten, gets a new sibling, and all around tries to figure out life. She has a mouse friend named Potato secretly living in her pocket and giving Chip confidence boosts as needed. Roy and Ray Razzle move in across the street in the second season, along with their twins Ron and Ruby.
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is full of camp, and for nine seasons we followed around in the home lives of basically everybody except for Scootaloo. That all changed in Season 9, when we finally get a chance to meet Aunt Holiday and Auntie Lofty, the lesbian couple raising her. They may not get all the shine they deserve, but their presence is tantamount all the same.
During the second season of Netflix's She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, it was revealed that Bow, one of Adora's best friends, has two dads! We already knew She-Ra was queer AF, but seeing two loving, openly gay parents on a popular animated show made our hearts swell!
And speaking of She-Ra and how awesomely LGBTQ-inclusive the animated series is, in the show's fifth and final season, Adora and her best-friend-turned-enemy-turned-friend-again-turned-girlfriend Catra confirmed their queerness when they confessed their love for each other and kissed in one of the entire series most emotional and raw moments! We have to stan forever!
Cartoon Network's groundbreaking title Steven Universe made history with Ruby and Sapphire, the lesbian couple that brought about the first same-sex proposal and same-sex wedding on a mainstream children's show.
During the 2018 series finale, Adventure Time fan faves Princess Bubblegum and Marceline the Vampire Queen finally kissed, confirming what shippers have known for eons: the two are in a relationship! To say fans were ecstatic is an understatement!
Cartoon Network has tons and tons of queer rep, and their show Clarence (from the same creators of Adventure Time) is no exception! The show's titular character Clarence has a best friend named Jeff who has two moms! And Jeff's mom are often incorporated into many of the friends' adventures!
Disney Channel's hilarious Gravity Falls confirmed back in 2016 that two of its funniest characters, Sheriff Blubs and Deputy Durland, were a couple. During the finale episode, the two said they were "mad with power...and love!" and hearts everywhere burst with joy!
The premiere episode of Arthur's 22nd season, entitled "Mr. Ratburn and the Special Someone," revealed that everyone's fave teacher/cake fiend Mr. Ratburn is openly gay. His wedding to his hubby Patrick in the episode was literally one of the cutest things we've ever seen on TV!
Back in 2016, Nickelodeon's The Loud House introduced viewers to interracial, same-sex couple Harold and Howard McBride to their character lineup, making them the first same-sex couple in the network's history.
Although the show did run into some queer-baiting controversy back in 2018, during the 7th season of Netflix's Voltron: Legendary Defender, it was revealed that Shiro, one of the show's main characters, was in fact gay and had a relationship with a very minor side character named Adam.
While it was literally only revealed during the last minute of the last episode, Avatar: The Last Airbender sequel series The Legend of Korra broke ground by featuring a queer main character, Korra, and her rival turned friend turned love interest Asami.
The Disney Channel show caused quite a wave in 2014 when they featured lesbian moms Susan & Cheryl in their penultimate episode!
In an April 2020 episode of Disney XD's DuckTales reboot, it's revealed that a character named Violet has two adorable dads! When we meet them for the first time, they're both wearing shirts that read, "I'm With Dad" with arrows pointing at each other.
The Nickelodeon superhero comedy show (a spinoff of Henry Danger) included a story in an April 2020 episode that featured same-sex parents named Justin (Tommy Dickie) and Dustan (Brandon Claybon)!
The episode, "Say My Name," is a little complicated (it involves a jailbreak and a mistaken identity for a villain named The Toddler), but essentially, a team of kid superheroes-in-training help reunite a lost child named Ellis who just so happens to have two dads!
"As a gay man who grew up with no visible role models of gay relationships in my community or entertainment content, I am grateful that this representation is happening on Nickelodeon, moved by the difference that it is surely making in the minds and hearts of children, and grateful to have been a part of this slow but important change," Dickie told PRIDE. "Thank you for caring and for making a socially conscious choice, Nick."
The latest Disney Channel original animated series officially confirmed the queerness of its lead character (a history-making first for the network!) when it was revealed that Amity (Mae Whitman) has a crush on Luz (Sarah-Nicole Robles), and although the show only hinted at a possible relationship between the two, that didn't stop the show's many stans from immediately loving and shipping the two together!
