We've been anticipating it for a long, long, long, long time, but is the wait for a queer superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe finally drawing to a close? According to the Avengers: Endgame directors, it just might.

Although queer MCU fans have been teased and baited with promises of representation for quite a while now, the brotherly directing duo talked to Entertainment Weekly's radio show this week about the possibility of Marvel Studios revealing one of their many beloved characters as already being part of the LGBTQ community.
When asked by EW's Dalton Ross and Jessica Shaw about Joe Russo's queer Endgame cameo (remember that therapy session Steve Rogers was holding five years after Thanos' first snap?), and whether his character was Marvel's first openly-gay one, Joe said:
"Yes, openly gay. There’ve been insinuations about other characters’ sexuality, but this is the first openly gay character."
"Who else is gay?” Shaw then asks.
"We’re gonna find out!" Joe replies
"That’s a story for another day," Anthony then says, chiming in.
So when is "another day" gonna come? Who knows. Teasing that an already established character is queer after the fact feels a lot like pulling a J.K. Rowling to us, and that's not a good thing. Rumor has it the upcoming The Eternals movie will feature a gay hero (not a side character who says two sentences), as they are currently on the hunt for a queer Asian actor to play a lead role, but considering how short and minor the gay role in Endgame was, we're not holding our breath for stellar queer representation in upcoming MCU movies anytime soon...
