More LGBT characters in video games? Yes please!
Beloved battle royale shooter game Apex Legends just gave players even more reason to love it: two of the game's characters are officially queer!!
\u201cImportant Apex Legends lore: Gibraltar is gay, Bloodhound is they/them, Mirage loves his mum. It's good, y'all. https://t.co/afTdwYYkMP\u201d— Matt Ross (@Matt Ross) 1549491285
Video game news site GameRevolution reports that Respawn Entertainment (the game's developers) and Electronic Arts have both confimed that two playable Apex Legends characters, Makoa Gibralter (left, below) and Bloodhound (right, below), both identify under the LGBTQ umbella!
According to Gibraltar’s character bio, we know that the soldier not only has a wild side, but has had relationships with men, since "he and his boyfriend stole his father’s motorcycle, took it on a joyride," and were later saved by his parents.
While not much is known about Bloodhound, since their identity is shrowded in so much mystery, according to their bio, they use they/them pronouns. And they're non-binary!
"Our studio is comprised of a diverse group of people, the playerbase of battle royale is comprised of a diverse group," Apex Legends community manager Jay Frechette said in an interview with Rock Paper Shotgun about Bloodhound's non-binary identity and the importance of queer representation in video games. "Having a diverse cast is super important. You want everyone to have someone they can connect to."
Apex Legends is available to play on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Watch the trailer in the video below!
