Meet Shade, Marvel's First (Mutant) Drag Queen Superhero
The X-Men character's superpower is the Iceman on the cake.
Category is: Mutant Superhero Extravaganza!!
Drag queens have made their way into the Marvel universe! Shade, a superpowered heroine beat for the gods, has sashayed into Iceman, one of Marvel's comics centered in the X-Men universe.
What are Shade's powers, you might be wondering? In last month's issue of Iceman #4, Shade teleports through a void in her handheld folding fan to host a Mutant Pride event, reports The Advocate.
Anyone else gagged?
Iceman has been heralded by the LGBTQ community for it's central lead character who came out as queer in 2015. With the addition of the latest drag queen character, Iceman creator Sina Grace is taking high-heeled strides towards better representation for our community.
"I really wanted this series to push readers to new and better stories about the whole queer experience and how it applies to being both a mutant and a superhero," Grace explained to The Advocate. "There’s a million different queer perspectives and we’re only scratching the surface."
Shade might only be in the comics for now, but maybe one day we can see her sashay into to the Marvel Cinematic Universe! A boy can dream...
Catch Iceman on comic book stands everywhere right now.
