Season 4 of Supergirl Will Feature a Transgender Superhero
This is huge for transgender visibility!
The upcoming season of CW’s popular Supergirl series will include a transgender superhero!
Nina Nia, whose superhero name is Dreamer, will be played by transgender activist and actor Nicole Maines. Dreamer has been described as "a soulful young transgender woman with a fierce drive to protect others."

"It seems only fitting that we have a trans superhero for trans kids to look up to," the 21 year-old actress announced this past weekend at San Diego Comic Con.
Maines told Variety, "I want fans to take away an understanding of trans people. We can be anybody, we can be who we want, we can be superheroes—because in many ways we are."
In 2014, Nicole Maines made headlines when she went to court after her school prevented her from using the women’s restroom. Maine's Supreme Judicial Court ruled the school had violated the state's Human Rights Act. After the trial, Nicole pursued an acting career and was featured in the TV show Royal Pains and the HBO documentary The Trans List.
The fourth season of Supergirl returns to the CW on October 14!
