At San Diego Comic Con this past weekend, Ryan Reynolds was asked about the possibility of more queer characters in upcoming Deadpool sequels, and he surprised the audience with his answer. It seems Reynolds is ready to explore Deadpool's sexuality in the forthcoming films!
"I certainly think that this universe...needs to represent and reflect the real world in very real ways, so yeah," said Reynolds, according to Variety. "The great thing about Deadpool is that we’re allowed to do things that other superhero movies don’t necessarily do, and that is probably one of them."
Deadpool is actually pansexual in the comic books, so his fluid attraction to people regardless of gender is in fact canon. "It’s something I would love to see more of," Reynolds went on. "Certainly through Wade, certainly through this universe because we’re building it out still, and we have a lot of tools in the shed that we get to play with."
Deadpool 2 featured Marvel's first explicitly queer superheroes with Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Yukio. With the exploration of Deadpool's sexuality and with the canonically gay Colossus, Marvel could potentially assemble the world's first LGBT superhero team!
