Marvel's launching an animated film franchise with a new, diverse set of superheroes! Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors will feature a wide range of characters, including Kathreen Khavari as Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel), Dove Cameron as Gwen Stacy (Ghost-Spider), Tyler Posey as Dante Pertuz (Inferno), Kamil McFadden as Rayshaun Lucas (Patriot), and Cierra Ramirez as America Chávez, Marvel’s first Latino LGBT character!
Marvel will introduce the series to the world with six, four-minute digital shorts focusing on Spider-Gwen, and will release a feature-length animated film, Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors, later in 2018.
"Ms Marvel, Squirrel Girl, Quake, Patriot, America Chavez, and Inferno join forces when a threat no one could have expected bears down on the Marvel Universe," summarized Geeks of Color. "Together this unlikely, but formidable team of aspiring teenage heroes have no choice but to rise together and prove to the world that sometimes the difference between a 'hero' and 'misfit' is just in the name."
Cort Lane, Marvel’s Senior Vice President of Animation & Family Entertainment underlined the importance of such diverse characters in a press release: "Marvel characters are so relatable because they live in our world and face the same challenges we do. So I’m very excited that our Marvel Rising team of heroes is so inclusive, reflecting characters with different backgrounds, particularly a set of strong female leads that our young audience can connect with."
"I think it’s incredibly important that we tell young women and young girls that they have this incredible power within themselves," said Sana Amanat, Marvel’s Director of Content & Character Development. "That they have heroes out there [who] … they can look up to, especially in these times."
