1) The Man from C.A.M.P. by Don Holliday (Victor J. Banis)
It doesn’t get more campy than The Man from C.A.M.P., but this series was also actually really cool. There were 10 books, the first nine written by Victor J. Banis under a pseudonym, and the last by an uncertain author. The series was inspired by the characters Batman and Robin, and spoofs the TV show The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and the James Bond series. The protagonist of the series, Jackie Holmes, was the first positive portrayal of a gay secret agent in fiction. Holmes is a witty, handsome, strong, agile, and fabulous gay superspy. He says he uses “sex as another weapon when [he’s] working,” and uses drag as a disguise. His poodle, Sophie, is trained to kill with her razor sharp teeth. Why hasn’t this been remade as a movie or television series? Photo via Wiki Commons.
