With a second season of Yellowjackets inching closer, fans are grasping for any and all new reveals to tide us over during the remainder of the excruciating wait — and the series just dropped a doozy.
It was announced over the summer that Lauren Ambrose had been cast as adult Van, which was a delightful surprise not only because Lauren Ambrose, but also because it revealed Van (played in the teen years by Liv Hewson) actually survived the island.
Now, Yellowjackets has offered up the first look at Ambrose in the role, providing us a little bit of insight into how one of our favorite queer castaways grew up — scars from the wolf attack we all thought would have taken her down and all.
Fans have been fascinated to watch the dual romances between young Taissa (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Van vs adult Taissa (Tawny Cypress) and her wife, Simone (Rukiya Bernard), play out simultaneously as we jump between past and present and invest in both stories. Assuming Van didn’t survive the island gave us a reason the romance between the two wouldn’t last, but discovering otherwise gives us all new drama to look forward to.
And having Ambrose step into the role feels like perfect casting, both in aging up Van and in slotting her in besides the current adult cast of survivors (which also includes Melanie Lynskey, Juliette Lewis, and Christina Ricci).
Season two will also see the arrival of another survivor — Simone Kessel as Lottie (whose teen counterpart is played by Courtney Eaton). We learned she was still alive in the season one finale, and her impending appearance seems likely to be linked to the creepier aspects of the island.
Jason Ritter and Elijah Wood have also been announced as joining the cast, with the latter as a citizen detective and the former’s role still one of the many, many mysteries of the show.
Season two of Yellowjackets is set to premiere on March 24 on the streaming service, and March 26 on the network.

Is Yellowjackets based on a true story?
Not exactly, although some have theorized it may be lightly based on a 1972 incident where a plane filled partially with a rugby team crashed on an island and turned to cannibalism to survive for 72 days until they were rescued.
