Yellowjackets is going to be back, back, back again! Today, Showtime announced that the hit queer series has already been renewed for season three ahead of its season two premiere. Now this is the kind of confidence we love to see for one of our very favorite shows!

“With Yellowjackjetsrunaway success in season one and the pent-up anticipation for season two, we wanted to maximize the momentum by fast-tracking season three now,” said Chris McCarthy, President/CEO, Showtime and Paramount Media Networks in a press release. “The show’s ambition is only exceeded by its execution, and I thank the incredible creative team behind it, including Ashley, Bart, Jonathan, eOne, and the Showtime team, for turning this into such a success.”

Not only was season one of Yellowjackets a ratings success, averaging more than 5 million weekly viewers — making it the second-most streamed series in Showtime history — but it was also a critical one, earning a very rare 100% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. But anyone who watched the first season could tell you that this show is something very special.

For the uninitiated, Yellowjackets follows the plight of a girl’s high school soccer team who, after surviving a plane crash in the wilderness, were forced to persist in this new environment no matter what. At some point, things devolved into something dark and mysterious (and still not entirely revealed). The main story picks up 25 years later as the women who survived their time in the woods try to put the experience behind them, only to be haunted — perhaps literally — by the past.

“You won’t be hungry much longer. March 24 2023. #Yellowjackets”

The show boasts an unbelievably talented cast, including Emmy nominee and Critics Choice Award winner Melanie Lynskey (Castle Rock), Oscar and Emmy nominee Juliette Lewis (Camping), Emmy nominee Christina Ricci (Z: The Beginning of Everything), Tawny Cypress (Unforgettable), Sophie Nélisse (The Book Thief), Jasmin Savoy Brown(The Leftovers), Sophie Thatcher (Prospect), Samantha Hanratty (SHAMELESS), Courtney Eaton (Mad Max: Fury Road), Liv Hewson (Santa Clarita Diet), Steven Krueger (The Originals), Warren Kole (Shades of Blue) and Kevin Alves.

Season two sees the additions of Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under, Servant), Simone Kessell (Obi-Wan Kenobi), and Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings trilogy).

Yellowjackets season two premieres Friday, March 24 on streaming and on-demand for all Showtime subscribers before making its on-air debut Sunday, March 26.
