Six years after the iconic show ended, Glee stars Kevin McHale and Jenna Ushkowitz have launched a new podcast about the insanely popular TV series and the behind-the-scenes secrets just keep spilling out.
Following last week's reveal that Justin Timberlake was seriously considered for Mr. Schue, creator and director Ryan Murphy returns for the second episode of the And That's What You REALLY Missed podcast and reveals that the legendary Whitney Houston was in talks to join the show, and the two even had a conversation about her potential role.
"I've never talked about this," he begins. "Do you remember the role that Eve played? I love Eve. Whitey Houston had agreed to play that part."
McHale and Ushkowitz are shocked by the news. Murphy continues, "That actually made it pretty far down the line. I had a phone call with Whitney about that part," he shares. "She just loved that it was about kids in choir."
Eve played the role of Grace Hitchens, a rival show choir director for the Jane Addams School for Girls who appeared in two episodes: season one's "Hairography" and "Sectionals."
Murphy told her, "I think you as a teacher would be a great kind of thing for you to play. She said, 'I agree.'" Houston was in choir growing up and was excited to play the role.
It didn't end up coming to fruition. "I don't think she was in the right place and time to do it is all I'll say," Murphy concluded.
He goes on to reveal a few more celebrities that wanted to be a part of the show but couldn't make it work including Jennifer Lopez, Anne Hathaway, and Javier Bardem. Looking back, Murphy also wishes they'd done Beyoncé and Taylor Swift-themed episodes, even calling the latter the one that got away.
