Velma Becomes IMDB's Worst-Rated Animated TV Series Ever
Here's the score for HBO Max's Velma.
Another week and two new episodes of HBO Max's Velma are here – but they have taken the animated series to even lower heights.
IMDB has shared that the Scooby-Doo adaption is now the worst-rated animated series of all time on the platform with a score of 1.3 out of 10 stars. It's the third worst-rated series following two shows we've never heard of: Iste Bu Benim Masalim is #2 and The Pogmentary is #1. Even over at Rotten Tomatoes, Velma sits a 6% audience score, though critics gave it 50%.

The prequel to the Scooby-Doo series follows the gang, sans Scooby, as teenage rivals and misfits. Produced and led by Mindy Kaling, the series was lauded as "an adult animated comedy series telling the origin story of Velma Dinkley, the unsung and under-appreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang. This original and humorous spin unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America’s most beloved mystery solvers."
It did not live up to the hype. According to Forbes, "a rare combination of anti-woke review bombers, left-leaning viewers who think the series is just plain bad, and Scooby Doo enthusiasts upset by the changes made to the IP have made Velma one of the lowest audience scoring series I’ve seen in HBO history."
We're the latter of those two categories. While the animation is beautiful and the concept had potential, Velma is a crude, cliche, self-aware in the stalest way, incoherently violent, both forward and backward-thinking mess of a series that might've been salvageable if it were funny but fails to do even that. Even the bisexual energy radiating from Velma and Daphne couldn't save it. And that's us being polite.

No. It is the first TV series in history of the franchise to not feature the iconic character.
In the latest two iterations of the Scooby Doo universe, Velma has been queer and interested in women. She has open crush on another woman in Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! and kisses Daphne in HBO Max's Velma.
In the HBO Max series, Velma is of Indian descent.
