Told across two timelines, the Bridgerton-era present with Rosheuvel’s Charlotte and the past with India Amarteifio’s younger personage, we get a closer look at the young woman destined to be queen, and how she first meets the man (and king) who will become her husband. “Centered on Queen Charlotte’s rise to prominence and power, this Bridgerton-verse prequel tells the story of how the young Queen’s marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the Ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton,” reads the official logline.
Along with that great love affair, the series also details Charlotte’s friendship with Lady Agatha Danbury, who, ever the socialite, recognizes in Charlotte both a need for a true friend and ally — and what her ascension to the throne means for the culture of the country. Adjoa Andoh reprises her role in the “present” and Arsema Thomas (in her television debut) stars as the sassy social climber in the past.
While in the present it’s clear that Charlotte and George (Corey Mylchreest) have had a great love affair, this is Bridgerton, so they have a rocky, complicated, dramatic, and (of course) steamy beginning.
This queer-inclusive series is one you won't want to miss when it premieres on Netflix May 4. Watch the trailer below and check out new images of the lush and sexy series.
