Our favorite swashbuckling gay romance is back!

We ship Blackbeard and Stede on a, well, on a ship!

The season for the highly anticipated second season of Our Flag Means Death is here and it's all about the romance and hopefully reunion of our two favorite gay pirates Captain Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and Blackbeard (Taika Waititi).

The series is based (very) loosely on the true adventures of 18th-century would-be pirate Bonnet who traded his charmed life of a gentleman of luxury leisure and marital (cough, cough) bliss for one of a swashbuckling buccaneer, as the captain of the pirate ship Revenge. At first, he struggled to gain the respect of his crew but that changed when he had a fateful run-in with the infamous Captain Blackbeard, and friendship soon blossomed into to an unexpected (and adorable) romance on the high seas. While the first season left off with the two in a less-than-stellar place the new season sees the two reuniting, and that's just one of the things we saw in the trailer that set our timbers to shivering. Here’s what else has we hyped!

1. All the gay longing.

Breaking up is hard to do and both Stede and Blackbeard are feeling it. This is what you call relatable content!

2. Minnie Driver is here and OMG she’s a lady pirate.

Our queen Minnie Driver is joining the cast in season two and she is playing the famed historical pirate Anne Bonny one of the very few women who was ever convicted of piracy.

3. All the swashbuckling and swordplay (no that's not a euphemism).

Yes, we are here for the romance and the comedy, but this series has everything you want from a pirate show, including lots of pirate action.

4.  Vero Ortiz’s mohawk.

Nonbinary actor and drag king Vero Ortiz reprises their role as Jim the nonbinary pirate, and they have a rad new look. Are we crushing on Jim? Yes, yes we are.

5. Kristian Nairn serving Ursula the Sea Witch realness.

Also back for season two is our beloved Kristian as Wee John Feeney. In the trailer we see him pop up in what can only be described as Ursula drag. We don't know why yet, and we don't care, we just love it.

6. The long-awaited reunion. `

Listen we are suckers for a good romance. No doubt this reunion is going to be a bumpy one, but we can't wait to see it all play out!

The eight-episode season of Our Flag Means Death debuts with three episodes October 5 on Max. The season continues with two new episodes weekly leading up to the season finale on Thursday, October 26. Watch the trailer below.
