Following the massive success of Netflix's drama Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, the streaming platform has announced Season 2 will follow the Menendez brothers, two real-life siblings who were sentenced to life in prison for the slaying of their affluent parents in 1989.
Titled Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's new season was announced with the chilling, real-life phone call to the police reporting the crime.
Their story captured national attention during the 1993 trial, then were tried again in 1995. The brothers were 21 and 18 at the time, and they claimed that they acted in self-defense following years of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. The prosecution said the brothers wanted to inherit their parents' wealth. Lyle and Erik were found guilty and sentenced to life without parole.
Dahmer originally debuted in September 2022 and quickly became one of the most-watched shows in Netflix history. Following the success of the show, Netflix renewed the anthology series for two more seasons, promising to "tell the stories of other monstrous figures who have impacted society."
To many people's surprise, the new season will not follow John Wayne Gacy as some folks hypothesized at the end of Season 1. There might still be hope in Season 3 though.
Netflix is also reportedly producing a documentary on the brothers as well.
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is headed to Netflix in 2024. Watch the teaser trailer below:
