The next season of Heartstopper is getting closer!

Netflix announced Friday that the second season of its hit gay coming-of-age series had finished filming, a little over two months after principal photography began.

Alice Oseman, creator and author of the original graphic novel that the show is based on, also celebrated wrapping the season with a heartfelt note of gratitude for everyone who worked on the show.

“It’s been an incredibly intense few months on set with man new challenges for the cast and crew, but everyone rose to those challenges with such passion and skill and determination,” she wrote. “Huge thanks to every single member of the case and crew — everyone has worked ridiculously hard and given it their all, and for that I am eternally grateful.”

Heartstopper season one followed the lives of high school students Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) as they unexpectedly fall in love. The series also explored the lives of their friend group, with the second season expected to expand upon those stories.

Oseman previously acknowledged that the next season will largely continue to follow the comics while introducing new characters for fans to fall in love with as well.

“I’ve always believed that in young adult fiction, we should care about all young people, and as a creative, I’m always trying to be careful about treating my readers with respect and giving representation where I can,” she said.

With season two now heading into post-production, fans can almost certainly look forward to episodes premiering sometime in 2023. And the best part is, season three has already been ordered as well.
