Here's What Ryan Murphy Would Do Differently If Glee Ever Gets Revived
Will there ever be a time when the possibility of a Glee reboot isn’t looming somewhere in the distance? If so, we aren’t there yet!
Creator Ryan Murphy recently spoke out about potentially revisiting the iconic song-and-dance series during an appearance on Kevin McHale and Jenna Ushkowitz’s Glee-themed podcast, And That’s What You REALLY Missed.
“The thing that I love about the show now is there are people watching it,” he said. “You know, it’s streaming everywhere. And there are people watching it. Young people my children’s age — 10, 8, 9 — who have no knowledge at all of anything we all went through. They only see the very pure work.”
Glee was, of course, a phenomenon during its time — and it also came with its fair share of drama while it was on the air, even before tragedy began to plague its cast. For people new to the show to experience it in a different way now must certainly been an interesting experience for those creatively involved to watch play out.
And as for an actual reboot, Murphy remains open-minded.
“Part of me feels like, well, wouldn’t it be great to do another run of that show and do a lot of other songs and pay tribute to things? How fun would that be,” he said. The prolific showrunner also added that a revival “would be difficult” to pull off, and said that he would love to do tribute episodes featuring music from both Beyoncé and Taylor Swift, although not right away.
“But if I did do it I would want to take it back to the feeling of the first year,” he admitted. “I would pretend that the last episode — whatever happened to everybody — never happened. It was a fever dream.”
Hey, if Will & Grace can do it, so can Glee, albeit with a little more song and dance in the process.
But maybe we can work on making that Scream Queens revival finally happen first, Mr. Murphy…
Glee primarily follows a group of misfits coming together in their high school glee club.
Glee ran from 2009 to 2015.
Probably not.
