Élite is heading back to Netflix for a seventh season, but Manu Ríos won’t be among the returning cast. Now, the actor is opening up about his feelings regarding the departure.
The sixth season of the popular teen soap ended with the same exciting cliffhangers fans have come to expect from the show, as well as Patrick (Ríos) and his family moving out of Madrid, despite him still being in love with Ivan (André Lamoglia).
It seemed all but certain that meant Rios would be leaving the show, and the actor recently confirmed as much in conversation with Fotogramas.
“I believe that everything that begins has its end,” he said. “As an actor, you want to do different things, and although ‘Elite’ has been an incredible experience and I am very grateful for everything it has brought, there are also times when it is necessary to go from stage to stage, change pages, and do other things.”
Ríos is hardly the first actor to depart from Élite, which has featured a revolving cast while staying rooted in Las Encinas, the fictional high school attended by many of the characters.
However, season seven will mark the return of Omar Ayuso, who left after season five. Additional new cast members were announced in October, and many other familiar faces from the most recent season are set to return as well.
We’ll have to wait a bit longer for more details about what the next season will bring, but fans disappointed over the departure of Ríos will be happy to hear that he isn’t shutting the door on the possibility of returning to Las Encinas somewhere down the line.
“Who knows, life takes many turns,” he said. “But, for now, season 6 is the closure of my character.”
