Fans are salivating over new images released of Jonathan Groff’s mysterious guest appearance on the upcoming season of Doctor Who.
Groff, who is best known for his roles on Glee, Hamilton, and Looking, will be joining the list of season 14 guest stars alongside Drag Race superstar Jinkx Monsoon and Neil Patrick Harris. The new season of the time travel classic will also introduce viewers to the next Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa, and his companion Ruby Sunday, played by Millie Gibson.
In the first-look images Groff appears alongside the Doctor and his companion, all of whom are wearing period-piece costumes that rival Bridgerton. The official Doctor Who Twitter account posted the images with the caption, “Dress to impress, and beware the Duchess... #DoctorWho.” The cryptic message has us dying to know more!
The new images show Groff, Gatwa, and Gibson standing on an ornate staircase wearing classic Regency-era clothing with Groff sporting a navy blue tailcoat and the classic sideburns that fans of Bridgerton know oh so well.
Fans of the long-running sci-fi series are excited for Groff’s guest appearance and took to Twitter to praise the elaborate costumes and point out the similarities to the beloved Netflix show.
Although filming began last December, so far information is scant about the new season. What we do know is that Gatwa will become the Doctor during the 60th anniversary special and images were released of the titular Time Lord and his companion in ‘60s garb, teasing a storyline set in that era.
While no official trailer has been released for season 14, there is a teaser trailer for the 60th anniversary special that reveals Neil Patrick Harris as a mysterious villain.
The Doctor will be hopping about the TARDIS starting in November with the three-part 60th anniversary special starring David Tennet and Catherine Tate. It will premiere exclusively on the BBC for the UK and Ireland, and will stream on Disney+ for US viewers.
