Another children’s show has introduced a character with two moms, and the world is crumbling — at least, that’s what homophobes would have everyone think.
Firebuds, an animated program that follows children and their rescue vehicle pals as they help keep their communities safe, premiered on Disney Junior last fall, and has already been renewed for a second season.
One of the main characters in the show is Violet Vega-Vaughn, and she has two moms.
Creator Craig Gerber has previously spoken out about how that was part of his plan for the show from the beginning, and praised Disney for supporting such inclusivity.
Bigots are apparently just now discovering and raging against this diversity.
One Million Moms' only mom recently lamented that Firebuds “targets preschoolers” with lesbianism and claimed “conservative families with continue to have no choice but to stop watching the Disney Channel network or Disney+ in their homes” now that Disney Junior “is no longer safe.”
The American Family Association, a Christian organization designated as a hate group, also blasted OMM’s demand that Disney cancel the show to their user base, hilariously running it directly underneath a claim that the “conservative/evangelical viewpoint” is being suppressed.
As always, homophobes are welcome to avoid inclusive programming, but it won’t change the fact that LGBTQ+ people and families with same-sex parents exist, nor do they have any right to demand the rest of the world not have access to content just because they personally don’t like it. But it sure is fun to watch them keep screaming into the void.
