Set in the world of the WNBA and from the folks behind GLOW? This better be hella gay.

The W is about to be a slam dunk for sapphic audiences.

Today Deadline shared that the new series which will be set in the world of the WNBA is in the works at Peacock and it boasts an all-star team behind it — literally.

Chiney Ogwumike, two-time WNBA All-Star has joined forces with Carly Mensch and Liz Flahive, who previously created the beloved (and gone too soon) series GLOWfor Netflix, to develop The W. This new series sees them returning to the world of sports with a half-hour comedy set amongst the “glamour and grind” of the WNBA. According to Deadline the series is based loosely on both Ogwumike and her business partner and agent, Allison Galer.

Mensch and Flahive will take on the role of showrunners for the new series and will be joined by Tori Collins (Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!) to write the pilot. The timing for this series could not be better, as there is an all-time level of excitement over the WNBA. No doubt Ogwumike has plenty of experiences to pull from during her time playing for the Connecticut Sun or Los Angeles Sparks — not to mention post-retirement in her work at ESPN, as a radio host, and as an analyst for NBA Today.

The question is, will it be queer?

Well, it better be very gay. The WNBA specifically, and women's professional sports more generally, are a space that features many, many queer folks. They are some of the biggest stars who live thier lives and love out loudly and proudly. So thier inclusion would not only be nice — but is essential. Fans deserve not to see the writers and creators fumble this ball, or we will be calling a foul.
