Sam Smith continues their world takeover, and next up is New York City — well, a show set there anyway.
Yesterday, Smith and the official Instagram of HBO’s Sex and the City sequel series And Just Like That jointly dropped a major tease about the singer appearing in the show’s upcoming second season.
In the post, Smith appears with their head poking out of a trailer holding up a peace sign, and a second photo sees them sitting in a director’s chair outside the trailer, looking very at home. Smith captioned the post “Up to something unholy on set.”
As of yet, details are scarce on what Smith’s role will be, specifically if they’ll be playing themselves or a character on the hit show. One thing is for sure, we will be watching!
It shouldn’t come as too much of a shock that Smith is making an appearance on the show, as the singer is close friends with its star and executive producer, Sarah Jessica Parker, who reprises her iconic role as Carrie Bradshaw in the series.
And Just Like That is set 11 years after Sex and the City 2 and follows most of the cast of Sex and the City — Carrie, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) — as they navigate their fifties, which includes evolving careers, relationships, and identities. In one case, this meant Miranda’s queer awakening and exploration with Ché Diaz (Sara Ramirez), a non-binary comic. The two ended the first season heading off to Los Angeles together.
The second season will reportedly delve further into Ramirez’s character as well as Miranda’s sexual identity.
If that’s not enough to get LGBTQ+ audiences intrigued, Smith’s arrival on set is raising the bar even higher. “I CANNOT HANDLE THIS,” wrote director Jake Wilson in the comments. “Wait is that the actor sam era,” asked user @_sam_fan. “Living for this,” added user @darci__pitts. “Unholy” collaborator Kim Petras also chimed in with an angel emoji.
While we might not know much about Smith’s cameo yet, we’ll know it all when the show returns this summer.
