5 Reasons Supergirl Needs an LGBT Character (Or a Few) Right Now

On Day 3 of PaleyFest, cast and creatives from CBS' Supergirl took the stage to discuss the show's probably renewal, its feminist successes, and what we can look forward to in episodes to come. However, what we weren't super thrilled to hear co-creater and executive producer Greg Berlanti's answer when asked if there were plans to introduce an LGBT character. According to Deadline Berlanti said, "There’s no immediate plans to do that right now," and our hearts sunk right into our little superchests. Aside from the fact that both Berlanti and co-creator/executive producer Ali Adler both identify as gay, it just seems a little, well, unrealistic that there would be no LGBT characters floating around National City. And in a show about alien superheroes, unrealistic isn't a word we throw around lightly. Here are 5 reasons Supergirl needs to introduce at least one LGBT character ASAP.Â
