Over the weekend, Netflix hosted Tudum: A Netflix Global Fan Event where it shared sneak peeks, trailers, and never-before-seen footage of its highly anticipated upcoming originals like Wednesday and Shadow and Bone season two, as well as behind-the-scenes footage and outtakes of some fan favorites like Stranger Things and The Umbrella Academy.
The whole event covered 120 series, films, specials, and games, featured more than 200 members of Netflix talent, and was available in 29 languages. Needless to say, there was a lot of exciting news coming out of the event. But here are the 10 originals we’re most hyped about.
All series and film descriptions are courtesy of Netflix.
Synopsis: After the Brannock family moves into what was supposed to be their suburban dream home, it quickly becomes a living hell. Ominous letters from someone calling themself “The Watcher” are just the beginning as the neighborhood’s sinister secrets come spilling out. Inspired by the true story of the infamous “Watcher” house in New Jersey.
Why we’re hyped: It’s the latest thriller from Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan and stars living goddess Jennifer Coolidge along with Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale, Mia Farrow, Margo Martindale, and Thomas Dekker. This is the perfect spooky season watching, especially if what sends a chill up your spine are tales based on true stories.
The Watcher premieres on October 13.Welcome back to the Grishaverse! The second season of the queer-inclusive fantasy series based on the books by Leigh Bardugo returns.
Why we’re hyped: Season two introduces four very important new characters Nikolai, Tolya, Tamar, and Wylan. As book readers already know, that means our fave queer gunslinger Jesper has a new love interest this time around.
Shadow and Bone returns for season two in 2023.Synopsis: Charlotte, meet George. The first encounter of a romance that sparked Bridgerton society as we know it, soon to be told in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
Why we’re hyped: Bridgerton has been the sexy Regency-era bodice ripper of our dreams. It’s just missing one thing: queerness. Queen Charlotte seems like the perfect place to add a bit more same-sex loving into the Bridgerton universe. One thing we do know for sure, it’s going to be hot.
Queen Charlotte’s release date has yet to be announced.
Synopsis: This series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.
Why we’re hyped: What queerdo doesn’t love the Addams family? This queer in every sense of the word series is going to be must-watch viewing when it premieres this fall.
Wednesday arrives on November 23.Synopsis: Adventure strikes again! Millie Bobby Brown, Henry Cavill, and Helena Bonham Carter return in Enola Holmes 2 — where a mystery of historic proportions takes two Holmes to handle. Directed by Harry Bradbeer and also starring Louis Partridge, Adeel Akhtar, David Thewlis, Susan Wokoma, and Sharon Duncan-Brewster.
Why we’re hyped: Rumors have been swirling that this new entry will introduce audiences to a bisexual Sherlock Holmes in the very appealing personage of one Henry Cavill. While we’ll have to see if that turns out to be true, the film itself looks to be a ton of fun.
Enola Holmes 2 premieres on November 4.
Synopsis: You’re invited to solve the puzzle in Rian Johnson’s next whodunnit, Glass Onion. Meet the suspects in this exclusive clip, and remember in the words of Benoit Blanc: when the game ends, the mystery begins.
Why we’re hyped: Knives Out came out of nowhere and knocked our socks off with its humor, mystery, stellar cast, and a dastardly Chris Evans wearing all the cable knit sweaters. Purr. It felt like lightning in a bottle, but it appears that somehow Rian Johnson made lightning strike twice in the same place with its sequel. We can’t wait to get to the bottom of this latest whodunnit. Also, it stars Janelle Monáe. ’Nuff said.
Glass Onion: A Knives out Mystery premieres on December 23.Synopsis: Your favorite chaotic teen and the gang will be back for the fourth and final season of #NeverHaveIEver! More drama, more romance, and a new heartthrob? Yikes. Coming to Netflix in 2023.
Why we’re hyped: While it will be heartbreaking to say goodbye to one of our faves, thankfully this show is ending on its own terms. But what do we have to expect in the final season? More love triangles, more queerness, a wedding apparently — oh, and a new love interest named Ethan, played by none other than Michael Cimino of Love, Victor. Never have I ever wanted a new season to start faster.
Never Have I Ever season four’s release date has not yet been announced.Synopsis: A deadly female assassin comes out of hiding to protect the daughter she gave up years before, while on the run from dangerous men. Watch The Mother starring Jennifer Lopez, Joseph Fiennes, Lucy Paez, Omari Hardwick, Paul Raci, and Gael Garcia Bernal on Netflix May 2023.
Why we’re hyped: Jennifer Lopez plays an action hero assassin? Say less.
The Mother premieres May 2023.
Synopsis: Best friends Sophie and Agatha find themselves on opposing sides of a modern fairy tale when they’re swept away into an enchanted school where young heroes and villains are trained to protect the balance of good and evil.
Why we’re hyped: I mean, have you seen the cast list for this movie? It stars Kerry Washington, Charlize Theron, Michelle Yeoh, Rob Delaney, Mark Heap, Patti LuPone, Rachel Bloom, Laurence Fishburne, Sophia Anne Caruso, Sofia Wylie — and they’re all serving lewks.
The School for Good and Evil premieres on October 19.
Say “hello you” to our favorite stalker, Joe. This time he’s headed across the pond to London, with a brand new alter ego as a professor. What could possibly go wrong?
Why we’re hyped: Is it wrong to love Joe after all the truly horrifying things he’s done? Yes. But you know what? Sometimes the heart just wants what it wants. Maybe Joe will finally face justice this time. Or maybe we can fix him if we just love him enough?
You season four premieres March 10.
