We’re so into World Cup 2022!
A lot of controversies have surrounded the 2022 World Cup in Qatar due to the country’s many laws infringing on human rights, including a clear anti-LGBTQ+ stance. As a result, many artists dropped out of performing at the opening ceremony for the event, and those who did perform were questioned about their stance on Qatar’s problematic viewpoints.
Nonetheless, a total of 32 countries qualified for the 2022 World Cup, and the soccer players representing those countries had nothing to do with FIFA’s decision to host the event in Qatar. In fact, many players have openly criticized Qatar’s anti-LGBTQ+ legislature on social media, in interviews, by wearing certain pieces of clothing, and so forth. Soccer fans are also keeping up with the World Cup while still denouncing the host nation’s many controversies.
Controversies aside, though, LGBTQ+ fans of soccer are thoroughly enjoying not only the games but also the beautiful men on the field. We are unfortunately lacking more LGBTQ+ representation at the 2022 World Cup, but we can still appreciate the sexy athletes who did qualify to compete in this year’s championship.
