On Tuesday, social media users pointed out that the Constitution page on the White House’s official website had been removed, leaving behind a “404 Page Not Found” message.
The “about” page for the executive branch of the U.S. government has also been removed with the same message found in its place, as have all of the pages that were found on the website prior to January 20, 2025, when Trump took office.
According to GLAAD, all mentions of “lesbian,” “bisexual,” “gay,” “transgender,” “sexual orientation,” “gender identity,” and related terms were wiped from the website as well as all HIV-focused resources, which have also been scrubbed from key federal agency webpages.
“President Trump claims to be a strong proponent of freedom of speech, yet he is clearly committed to censorship of any information containing or related to LGBTQ Americans and issues that we face,” GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said in a statement. “This action proves the Trump administration’s goal of making it as difficult as possible for LGBTQ Americans to find federal resources or otherwise see ourselves reflected under his presidency. Sadly for him, our community is more visible than ever; and this pathetic attempt to diminish and remove us will again prove unsuccessful.”
The entirety of the Spanish language version of WhiteHouse.gov has also been removed, as have accessibility features such as large and high-contrast font.
As of yesterday, these pages were still available on the White House website.
The White House told USA Today that the changes to the website were errors the new administration plans to correct.
"It's day two. We are in the process of developing, editing and tweaking the White House website. As part of this ongoing work, some of the archived content on the website went dormant. We are committed to reloading that content in a short timeline," said principal White House deputy press secretary Harrison Fields in a statement to the publication.
He also indicated that the Spanish-language version of the website would be back up and running soon. "We are committed to bringing back online the Spanish translation section of the website," Fields said.
The updated White House website now has a photo of Donald Trump on the front page with the message, “America is back.” There is also an “administration page” listing Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Second Lady Usha Vance.
The “Issues” page lists Trump’s priorities for his time in office, including “Making America safe again,” Make America affordable and energy dominant again,” and "Drain the swamp.”
Every time a new president takes over the Oval Office, the government website is overhauled, and the National Archives archives the old website and social media accounts. New presidents usually add information about their administration as well as goals from their presidency, with more being added throughout their term.
But that overhaul isn’t typically as sweeping as what Trump has done. According to the copy of the White House website from Trump’s first term, the page about the Constitution was left intact after switching over from Barack Obama's tenure in office.
This is a developing story.
