Provincetown Christmas Flood Fundraiser for Famed Fanizzi's Tops $50k
Provincetown's famed and beloved year-round restaurant and bar, Fanizzi's was heavily damaged during the winter storm "Elliott" December 23, 2022 impacting the livelihood of both owner Paul Fanizzi and more than 30 employees. Take heart queer nation, more than $50,000 worth of immediate support from a Go Fund Me fundraiser posted by restaurant fan and newbie fundraiser, Paul Asher-Best. And, more will no doubt be needed.
Asher-Best said this in an online message exchange about setting up the fundraiser for Fanizzi's staff: "Paul (Fanizzi), his staff, and his establishment are very much loved by this community. Whenever this is a fundraiser for a local charity, you can always find a tray of food donated by Fanizzi's." Asher-Best said this about the fundraiser: "With New Year's on a Sunday this year, the weekend would have been a banner weekend. That's revenue and income that can never be recovered. I'm not sure how long we'll keep the fundraiser going. A couple of longtime employees are going to Seamen's Bank to open an account....their plan is to disperse the funds immediately, hopefully within the week."
With the restaurant out of commission for the foreseeable future and it being in the middle of winter with little other work options, the employees are in for a tough time that will extend far beyond the holiday period.
