A fatal shooting took place at a nightclub in Florida over the weekend, and RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Carmen Carrera is among those who were present at the time. Now, she’s opening up about her experience on Twitter.

A gunman opened fire just before 4am on Sunday at GALA Miami, a crowded, upscale nightclub in Miami Beach. Video taken at the club and obtained by NBC 6 showed patrons screaming and running for cover in the immediate aftermath of the shooting.

Carrera, who appeared on the third season of RPDR, gave a similar account via Twitter, tweeting a harrowing and all too American sentence later that morning: “So I just experienced my first night club shooting.”

“Fabolous and J Balvin were both in the building, it was a high end club,” she continued. “As the entire club [ducks] down, I grabbed my girlfriends and jet out the door. I cannot believe this is the reality of the world that we live in today.”

The shooting victims included rapper Lowell Grissom, aka EveryBodyKnowsLo, and two unidentified women. All three were transported to the hospital, where Grissom ultimately died of his injuries. Both women are expected to recover.

A friend of the rapper told CBS News Miami that he believes Grissom was targeted in the shooting, although an investigation is still underway and no arrests have been made.

“We are shocked and deeply saddened by the isolated and targeted incident that occurred last night at our upscale establishment,” a spokesperson for the nightclub said. “Our condolences are with the family and friends of the victim during this time.”
