Troye Sivan is only a few months away from releasing his long-awaited follow up to Bloom, and he’s opening up about some of the inspiration behind the latest album.

Speaking with Emily Ratajkowski on her podcast, High Low with EmRata, the singer explained that the name of his third album links back to a surprisingly meaningful conversation he had with a one night stand.

The two were lying in bed together after hooking up when the other man made an observation that Sivan classified as being “like something out of a movie.”

“He was like, ‘This is one of life’s greatest pleasures.’ And I was like, ‘What is?’” he recalled. “And he was like, ‘No, even if I never see you again, you know we are like, sharing this one night and this one moment and we can connect in this way…The sleepover is my favorite part of hooking up with someone.’”

Sivan admitted that he had been somewhat close-minded about the situation prior to that, as it was his first sleepover with a guy since breaking up with his ex. But something shifted, they spent a great night together, cuddling and making coffee in the morning—and never saw each other again.

“We don’t speak and that’s totally fine,” he continued. “[It] completely set me on this path of…so the album is called Something We Give Each Other, and I was like, we all literally have something to give each other. It doesn’t matter if it is dancing on the dance floor with someone for like two seconds or with a big group of people. It was sharing this one night with someone or like a weekend or whatever and it just kind of really changed my perspective on intimacy.”

The first single for the new album, “Rush,” already debuted earlier this summer, and sticks to a similar theme. Something We Give Each Other will be released in its entirety on October 13.
