Shakira has spoken out about her messy break-up in a pointed new song that's smashing YouTube records.
Simply titled "SHAKIRA || BZRP Music Sessions #53", the music video was uploaded to the channel of her collaborator, Bizzarrap, an Argentine DJ. In 24 hours it generated 63 million views on YouTube, making it the most watched new Latin song in the platform’s history, and currently sits at over 72 million views.
In the track, she takes aim at her ex, Gerard Piqué. After over ten years and two children together, Shakira and the Spanish football player split last year, and he promptly began dating Clara Chía, who is 23 years old.
“I’m worth two 22-year-olds,” Shakira sings. “You swapped a Ferrari for a Twingo/You swapped a Rolex for a Casio.”
She also alludes to one of her own hit songs, singing, "Sorry baby I should have thrown you out a while ago/A she-wolf like me is not for rookies/A she-wolf like me is not for guys like you."
Shakira then mentions the recent money troubles she's had with the Spanish government, which has filed charges against the 45-year-old pop star for tax evasion to the tune of 14.5 million euros.
“You left me the in-laws as my neighbors, media outlets at my door and in debt with the government/ You thought you hurt me, but you made me stronger/ Women don’t cry anymore, they cash in.”
She claims it's all a publicity stunt and has so far refused to pay the fine.
Piqué or Chía have yet to respond to the diss track but it's gone viral around the world. After it peaked at the top of the Spotify charts, Shakira tweeted a thank you to fans in Spanish, which translates to, "This goes out to all the women who taught me that when life throws you bitter lemons, there's no other choice but to make lemonade.
